Birdie was born in Olathe, KS before being adopted and relocating to Fairway, KS in the summer of 2020. She put in numerous hours of hard work training in the home and at various classes to obtain her “Canine Good Citizen” certificate from the American Kennel Club in the spring of 2021. She officially joined the Sunnybrook Dental team shortly after this, as our hired mascot and friendly greeter of patients. Her calm demeanor, excitement for meeting new people, and unequivocally soft fur coat made her the perfect pup for the job. When she’s not being petted by our patients or our other team members at the office, you can find Birdie watching “The Office,” fetching balls, or excelling in marathon naps at her home. She also enjoys her regular play-dates at BarKC with her litter-mates.

Dan Bednarczyk

Beginnings
Before his family days, Dr. Dan studied at the University of Kansas for his undergraduate degree in genetics and then remained in Lawrence for graduate school in molecular biology. That degree pursuit was cut short when he was led to dentistry by numerous mentors who were all in the field. After attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry and being distinguished with the AAOMS Implantology award for his class, he became a general practice resident at the University of Iowa-Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. That program furthered his cosmetic and restorative skills and allowed him to obtain advanced clinical training in oral surgery and intravenous sedation.
Experience
After his residency, Dr. Dan and his wife moved to Denver, where he was an associate in a large group practice for 3½ years. Soon after the birth of their son, the Bednarczyk’s returned to Kansas City to be closer to loved ones - and free family babysitting! Dr. Dan initially was a co-owner of a practice on the Plaza, but he always recognized that he wanted to start his own practice in a suburban neighborhood with a great community feel.
Sunnybrook
With a young family of his own, Dr. Dan searched the Kansas City area for the perfect location to start his own practice, with a vision of being able to get to know and watch families grow through the years. An opportunity presented itself in 2006 to lease space in the College Park Family Care building, which at the time was the original building in the Shops of Sunnybrook. He immediately knew that it was the perfect place to start a new practice. Dr. Dan loved the Olathe Northwest and Cedar Creek areas, surrounded by wonderful developing neighborhoods and schools. Keeping in mind his own busy family, he appreciated how much a great location that catered to all ages would make life a little easier for families to get to their appointments.
Home Life
Dr. Dan grew up in numerous states and even abroad his first 11 years, but his hometown is definitely Kansas City. He and his wife have a son and daughter who are both in college. Dan and their son love to fly and do so out of the Downtown Airport. Their daughter is on her high-school dance team and loves ballet, too. When they make the time to slow down, the Bednarczyks love traveling. Discovering new places is always at the top of the list, but they make regular trips to Colorado and Montana for camping, fishing, and their favorite pastime, skiing. Throughout the season, “Family Golf” is also a constant for them but takes a back seat to trips to the Ozarks and Grand Lake.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Dr. Johnston attended The University of Colorado at Boulder for his Undergraduate Degree in Integrative Physiology and then remained in Denver for a year performing Cancer research. From there, his professional aspirations took him to Kirksville, MO for his Doctorate at the A.T. Still – Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Upon graduation, Dr. Johnston was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honors Society in recognition of his Academic accomplishments. After completion of his D.M.D., Dr. Johnston began practicing in the Kansas City area.
Memberships & Missions
He is a member of the American Dental Association, Kansas Dental Association and Fifth District Dental Society. He also volunteers for Kansas Mission of Mercy and Missouri Mission of Mercy, local organizations that provide dentistry for those in need of dental care without the resources to access it.
Comfort & Care
Dr. Johnston is passionate about the clinical practice of General Dentistry and being able to provide his best oral health care to patients. With an excellent chairside manner and friendly demeanor, he has the ability to deliver that care in a low-stress and comfortable setting.
Outside the Office
He is a fan of all things Colorado sports - especially the Broncos and the Rockies. In his free time, he likes to read, watch sports, and travel. He has a passion for golf, skiing in his native Colorado, and hiking with his Fiancée and their Golden Lab, Tucker.
Kayla Hanna

Dr. Kayla Hanna grew up in rural Kansas before relocating to Missouri to attend college. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Central Missouri, during which time she spent a semester abroad studying business in Athens, Greece and Groningen, Netherlands. Dr. Hanna then pursued her aspirations of dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, where she graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. During her time at UMKC School of Dentistry, she received numerous awards for her achievements there, including graduating Magna Cum Laude and being inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.
Memberships & Missions
Dr. Hanna is a member of the American Dental Association, Kansas Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. She has volunteered in Cuzco, Peru providing dental treatment to the underserved, and she continues to be actively involved in the Missouri Mission of Mercy, Kansas Mission of Mercy, TeamSmile and other local community events.
Residency & Dentistry
Following graduation, Dr. Kayla completed an Advanced Education of General Dentistry Residency at Wichita State University, where she learned state of the art techniques in Implants, Endodontics, Periodontics and Oral Surgery. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Hanna relocated to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she joined a private practice in general dentistry as an Associate. Very soon after the birth of their first daughter, the Hanna family moved back home to Kansas City to be closer to family and friends, and she joined our Sunnybrook Dental team at that time.
Personally
She enjoys rock climbing, hiking, running, spending time at the lake, traveling and, of course, spending time with her husband, three children (Aubrey, Barrett, and Briggs), and their two goldendoodles.
Tanner Resseguie

Background & Education
Dr. Tanner Resseguie earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he was also a proud member of the TriBeta Biology Honor Society. He then went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Resseguie has always valued the strong sense of community and connection that the Midwest offers.
Memberships & Focus
He is an active member of the Missouri Dental Association, the Kansas Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Resseguie enjoys getting to know his patients and building lasting relationships with individuals and families through personalized, compassionate dental care. He loves to help people smile with confidence.

Before joining Sunnybrook Dental, he spent time practicing in rural Missouri, where he gained valuable experience providing care to underserved communities. Dr. Resseguie is committed to giving back and continues to seek out volunteer opportunities through programs such as Clinic with a Heart, Kansas Mission of Mercy, and Missouri Mission of Mercy.
At Home
When not in the office, you’ll likely find him outdoors - he’s an avid adventurer who especially enjoys backcountry backpacking and almost any activity that gets him outside.

Audrey started her college experience by playing softball at Neosho County Community college for two years, while she worked on prerequisites for Dental Hygiene School. She graduated from Johnson County Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Audrey has been with Sunnybrook Dental since the doors were opened in November 2006. As a Dental Hygienist, she enjoys helping people understand the importance of a healthy mouth and how that connects to our total health. She values the relationships she has built with our patients over the years. Additionally, Audrey’s natural leadership skills and years of experience at Sunnybrook have made her an excellent director of our Dental Hygiene team and philosophy. Audrey has a little girl and little boy. They love spending time with family and friends and getting outdoors as much as possible. March Madness is one of her favorite times of the year, but she is also unapologetically a fan of the Bachelor Franchise. Audrey vows to get back to the volleyball courts once her kids get a little older!

Paula has been in the dental field since 2010, starting as a receptionist and becoming inspired to work more with patients directly. She began dental assisting, completed her Certified Dental Assisting studies, and then continued to follow her goals to become a Dental Hygienist. She received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene through Johnson County Community College in 2016. Paula loves all aspects of the dental practice, but she has found her niche in direct patient care, as a dental hygienist, where she has the most time to get to know her patients one-on-one. Paula and her husband, her high school sweetheart, have been married since 2012. They have two sons, Mack, and Gareth. She loves all things soccer - she and her boys are Sporting KC's biggest fans, and they go to as many games as they can. She also loves binge watching any great series on Netflix!

Renae received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene through Johnson County Community College in 2020, while she was attending, she was president of the Student American Dental Hygiene Association. She loves connecting with patients and hearing about their life. Renae is also a personal trainer/certified nutrition coach, so she loves educating patients on their whole-body health and how oral hygiene falls into that category. Renae was born in Olathe and has a chocolate lab mix named Knox. In her free time, she loves working out, walking Knox, going to coffee shops, teaching Pilates, and helping others reach their health goals and gain confidence.

Lacey started her education at the University of Kansas pursuing a degree in Neurobiology. While in Lawrence, she shadowed different dental specialties and decided to transfer to Concorde Career College for the Dental Hygiene program. Graduating in 2015, she then moved back to western, KS and worked as a hygienist for her childhood dentist. After living in a small town for over two years, Lacey and her husband decided it would be best to move to a bigger city with more opportunities. Lacey and her husband Mace have two daughters. In her free time, she likes to read, travel, and keep her sourdough starter alive!

Krista grew up in rural Arkansas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education from Hendrix College. She then spent a few years living in Arizona, Michigan, and Texas before settling in Kansas in 2008 to raise her daughter. Krista has worked in the dental field in Kansas City since 2015 when she earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from UMKC’s School of Dentistry. Dedicated to leadership and community development, she spent seven years serving on UMKC’s Dental Hygiene Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and various other boards. When caring for her patients Krista strives to create a calm and relaxing environment. A teacher at heart, she enjoys empowering and inspiring her patients to understand and improve their oral health. Krista has one adult daughter who lives in Kansas City. In 2020, she adopted a Min Pin-Chihuahua mix puppy named Sash who has showered the family with endless puppy love. Krista’s interests include following Kansas City sports, interior decorating, whole food-gluten free cooking, reading nonfiction, adding to her vinyl collection, and jogging on rainy days. In her free time, she enjoys developing new skills, the latest being furniture restoration.

Abby received her Dental Assisting and CPR Certifications in November of 2013, and she has been working together with Dr. Bednarczyk ever since. Her bright personality and passion for helping others have made her the perfect fit as our lead chairside assistant. On top of that, her natural organization abilities, years of experience, and wonderful ideas on how implement our systems and approach to clinical care have made her the perfect fit for our Dental Clinic Coordinator position. During her free time, Abby enjoys reading, going to the lake, and camping. She and her husband have been married for almost 8 years and have two beautiful daughters.

Aryanna was born and raised in Olathe KS and plans on being here for the long term! She loves spending time with family and friends in her free time.

Sophie received her Dental Assisting Certificate from Concorde Career College in 2016. She extended her knowledge and desire to learn more by getting her Supragingival Certification in 2018, Nitrous Certification, and CPR Certification. Sophie loves all aspects of dentistry but especially the artistic side. Much of what she does takes a lot of talent, and she appreciates that part of the role. Sophie grew up in Lenexa and has lived in the area her whole life. In her free time, she is with her daughter doing fun activities like coloring, playing outside, or playing with friends.

Like many of our patients, Elise is an alumnus of St. James Academy in Lenexa. After high school, she spent several months living and working as a missionary in Guatemala. After fostering her love for the language and culture, Elise graduated from the University of Kansas in 2022 with a Bachelor of Education in Spanish Education. She has spent time as a student teacher and substitute in various Lawrence, De Soto, Shawnee, and Blue Valley classrooms. Elise and her husband love hanging out in their backyard hammock, playing with their two dogs - Frassati and Daisy. She enjoys kayaking and hiking and is currently keeping 7 whole plants alive. Elise also appreciates her time inside reading, playing board games with friends, and binge watching her latest TV obsession.
